“If it wasn’t for luck, I would win every tournament I played.” That was the somewhat self deprecating analysis of one of the tournaments Hellmuth failed to win.
The self styled “Poker Brat” is loved and reviled by poker followers in virtually equally divided camps.
His poker achievements are there for everyone to see. Eleven WSOP bracelets, including a main event triumph in 1989. He won Late Night Poker in 2000. The biggest Seven Card Stud tournament in the World, Poker EM in Austria went his way in 2001. He has collected numerous other major titles during the last 20 years.
But, he is so much more than a poker player. He has had several attempts at commentating. He is the face of an online poker room. He endorses several products. He is probably better known for his bad behaviour when he is knocked out than actually winning events.
Love him or hate him, you just cannot ignore Mr Phil Hellmuth jr.
