Barry was born in 1954 in Chicago but now resides in California. He was a founder programmer for Symantec in the 1980s before retiring in 1991 to play poker professionally full time. A high stakes cash game player first and foremost, playing up to $4000/8000 limit and $100,000 capped PL/NL , he prefers mixed games - the more the merrier.
Barry is also an excellent tournament player who holds three WSOP bracelets. For a couple of years Barry actually donated all his tournament winnings to [mainly children's] charities. He still donates all his net winnings from tournaments to charity. He was the first player to win two tournaments where the first place prize was $1,000,000+, although a deal was actually made in the 2003 Larry Flynt Hustler event which he won. At the time of writing his tournament cashes are approaching $7 million.
He is author of the book Ace on the River: An Advanced Poker Guide
